In 2006, Al-Ahram newspaper, the leading Egyptian daily, chose CEOSS' program of Egyptian-German Dialogue as one of the most important cultural events in the Arab world. This program brings together intellectuals and religious leaders from Germany and Egypt in an effort to combat stereotypes pervasive in both countries.

Development Highlight: Improving Agriculture

With the shrinking availability of land and stiff international competition, Egyptian farmers face daunting challenges. Through CEOSS' interventions, farmer learn to use natural fertilizers and avoid pesticides to improve crop quality, protect the environment, and enhance marketability. Farmers grow new varieties of crops, address post-harvest processing, and organize for direct access to profitable markets.

CEOSS Director Joins World Health Organization Committee

CEOSS Director General Nabil Abadir was appointed to a governorate-level steering committee for Vision 2020: Right to Sight, a global initiative of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness.

Combating Blindness
At a recent meeting with the govenor of Minia, Dr. Nabil Abadir, the Director of CEOSS, spoke about the plight of the blind in Egypt. The governor announced that Abadir, amongst other, would serve on a committee to implement Vision 2020: Right to Sight, a global health initiative to prevent blindess.
